Wig Work

Wig Work

Scratch wigs

This was a really fun lesson, we got to try on some crazy wigs but extremely funny to look at.   The hair can be put up in two separate ways it can either be pin-curled or plaited.  If pin curling the hair needs to be pinned away from the hairline, throughout the whole head in square inch-by-inch sections.  Two grips are cross-locked to hold each section in place.  The plaits are used for longer hair mainly and there are usually two (more plaits if necessary).  The hair is plaited the same on both sides and the ends are secured with pins.  Any stray hairs left at the end on either technique used can be smoothed down with wax.  A stocking cap is then placed over the head (sometimes a grip may be used to secure the cap).  Finally the wig can be placed over the head using the bunny fingers method ( it is much easier if the model holds the wig at the front to secure).  Once the wig is in place grips can be placed at the top, nape and behind the ears to secure.  It is much more advisable to dress the wig before application but it can be preened once its on, to fix any wispy hairs and smooth down.
